Seniors Celebrate winning the league

The Seniors section were presented with the NSMGL League trophy at a special presentation evening at the club on Wednesday 16th Oct. This was the third year in succession that Stocksfield have won the League and there to present the trophy was Graham Scott (League Chairman) and Peter Denham (League Secretary). The photo below shows Graham presenting the trophy to Jeff Douglass the 2024 seniors captain along with his vice captain Lawrence Hardwick who stepped up to the plate when Jeff's illness laid him low for the season.

The evening was kicked off by SGC Chairman John Brinkhurst introducing the guests and welcoming everyone to this special occasion. Captain Jeff then thanked everyone for their kind thoughts during his illness and also for their efforts in not only running the section but winning the league during his absence.

Graham Scott then presented the cup to Jeff & Lawrence and praised the club on winning the league for the 3rd time in succession, reminding us this was a feat only achieved by 2 clubs in the 50 year history of the league (Hexham & Northumberland) although they both went on to win it 15 times each so we still have some work to do. Graham also praised the club on winning the team event at the 50 year league celebration event earlier in the year.

Lawrence then made a brief speech outlining the season and the exciting conclusion that resulted in the tight win for Stocksfield. He went on to thank Colin Bone who stepped up to the mark as League secretary, Gerry Slater who did an excellent job as Secretary/Treasurer and last years Captain Bill Fraser for his help and support. Lawrence then gave a special thanks to Russell and his staff for the excellent meals he has provided throughout the year. After the meal Russell was presented with a collection as a leaving gift from the Seniors section. An excellent night was had by all as we enjoyed a drink from the Cup.
